I plan to keep this website going, but I am moving the blog. I found that wordpress has more blog options, so you can find me here: http://anyonesews.wordpress.com/
I spent some time this evening browsing sewing blogs and there are quite a few out there. I hope I can get some followers from the sites I visited and now follow.
I plan to work on my lesson plans for my next session of classes.
I signed up for a pattern class at a local fabric store. I thought it was going to be a class about learning to make your own patterns from scratch. Not so. It was a sales pitch for the Lutterloh Pattern Drafting System (by Tru-Fit Patterns). I was caught a bit by surprise by that, but did enjoy it and the way of making patterns that fit did seem to work on the one demo that was done.I considered purchasing it until I looked through the book and found it all women's wear; much of it items I would probably not wear. Had I seen this 30 years ago, I might have considered it. I did purchase the curved rulers and the children's patterns and we were given a few basic women's patterns so that should be enough for me to give it a try.
A few things to note, if you go to this class:
On another note:
I have been a fan of Nancy Zieman (Sewing with Nancy) for quite some time. I have been intrigued by her method of adjusting patterns and tried it recently with a top. It seemed to work well, although I may need to readjust it further. I am hoping to try an experiment soon. I would like to take a pants pattern, similar to the one received at the above mentioned class, and do the adjustments the way Nancy describes in her book, Fitting Finesse, and compare the two and see which fits better. If I get to that, I will post results.
First session of classes ended last week. Everyone in the beginner class finished their pajama pants and had fun doing it. Some were not there the last night, but were close to done so I hope they finished on their own.
The intermediate class students made skirts that required a zipper and all were successful. Two finished the skirt with the exception of the hem. The other still has the waistband to do. Students from both classes indicated interest in coming back so I hope the next session is just as successful and fun. I am already looking forward to it.
First Fall session of classes are almost over. This is the last week. Next session starts the first week of November. Be sure to sign up if you would like to join the fun.
Everyone in the beginner class has been successful in making a pair of pajama, or lounge pants. I hope to get pictures this week since they should all be able to finish up.
The intermediate class students are learning to put in a zipper, It has been a little challenging, but so far all are successful.
The next session starts the first week of November so there is time to sign up.
Well, tonight was class 5 of 6 of this session. Everyone seems to be having a good time in spite of some ongoing bobbin problems. We got most of the machines working tonight but some people have gotten a bit behind. Next week everyone should be able to finish, though.
